Micromachining Cutters
Solid-carbide end mills specially
designed for micromachining
applications have a geometrically
optimized cutting edge and a slim,
concave, tapered neck. These features
of the Micro tool line support the
milling of various materials, including
steel hardened to 66 HRc and
graphite. The end mills are available
with cutting diameters ranging from
0.2 to 2 mm and with effective
ratios of cutting length to diameter
of 2.2:1, 5:1, and 10:1. Suitable
for use in milling injection molds,
extrusion dies, and graphite and
copper electrodes, the cutters include
ball-nose, torus, and flat-end styles.
They can also be used for surface
structuring of larger components and
for producing micromechanical parts.
Consisting of 24 basic designs, the
product line can be supplied either
uncoated, with a TiAlN coating, or
with a diamond coating. A choice of
300 distinct end mills is offered.

Fiber-Coupled Laser
Module
A high-power fiber-coupled diode
laser bar is designed to enable
unpolarized optical output. Within
the architecture of the module is a
polarization scrambler that produces
a degree of polarization measuring
below 0.1. This makes the laser bar
suitable for various OEM pumping
applications and for the manufacture
of diode-pumped solid-state lasers.
Standard modules with up to 40 W
of output power are available at 808,
880, 915, 940, and 980 nm with
a numerical aperture of 0.22 from
400-μm-core fibers. Measuring about
100 × 31 × 20 mm, the module’s
industry-standard package offers
a wall-plug efficiency greater than
35%. The device operates typically
at 55 A with a compliance voltage
of 1.8 V. Its standard wavelength
tolerance is ±3 nm, and its spectral
width is less than 5 nm.
