fittings. The custom tubing assemblies
are easy to install and offer fittings
for tubing with 1/ 1 8- and /16-in. OD.

Medical Packaging
Featuring improved aseptic
presentation of medical products, a
peelable pouch is designed to serve
as a hybrid header bag and chevron
pouch. Because the design of the
Duet pouch reduces the amount of
Tyvek typically found in a chevron
pouch, the overall cost of the product
is lowered. When the pouch is sent
to a sterile medical packager, the
chevron is already in place and the
device or kit can be loaded from the
top end where the Tyvek and film are
to be heat sealed. The pouch offers
a dual chevron at the outer edge of
the structure, which makes it easy
to remove sterile objects that might
otherwise be contaminated by flaps.
The ability of the Duet to facilitate
aseptic presentation could eliminate
the need for the central supply
room wrap that is found over many
procedural kits and trays.

IV Components
A line of needle-free swabbable
products includes tube-end, bag-access, and stopcock valves. The
tube-end valves have tubing pockets
designed to fit tubing sizes of 2, 2.5,
2.8, 3. 7, and 4 mm for convenient
bonding. Bag-access valves are
designed to attach directly to solution
bags during manufacture. This
feature converts any needle port on
a bag into a needle-free access site
that provides high flow and creates
a closed system, according to the
supplier. Bag-access valves are
designed to fit 6.8-mm ID tube ports.
Break-off valves are available in 6-
and 6.8-mm versions. The supplier’s
stopcocks also feature needle-free
access and closed-system valve
technology. All products are made of
USP Class IV latex- and DEHP-free
materials.

Oxygen Permeation
Analyzer
An oxygen transmission rate (OTR)
analyzer is designed to achieve
optimal packaging performance.
The Ox-Tran Model 1/50 eliminates
the need for calibration by using a
coulometric method for absolute
readings. It is designed to test
medium- to low-barrier film within
the range of 0.1–200 cm³/m²/day
and less than 65 mil thick. It can also
test coat paperboard. The product
features a quick-start functionality,
which speeds setup time, as well
as a control that provides fast and
automatic relative-humidity controls.
Operator input is simplified with
screen prompts that are displayed in
any of five languages. Built-in safety
systems prevent sensor damage
and protect against underpressure,
overpressure, or thermo runaway.
Real-time test results can be output
to a computer or printed via the
standard thermal serial printer.

Analysis Software
Designers of surgical equipment
can use finite-element analysis
software to create a realistic
simulation of products, materials,
and processes behaviors. The Abaqus
6.8-EF includes a general contact
implementation that offers a highly
automated method for defining
contact interactions. It can simulate
the contact between different
components in the assembly as well
as interactions with surrounding
tissue. The software also includes a
low-density foam model for medical
packaging.

Laser Bonder
A laser bonding system offers
advanced process control and
feedback via closed-loop temperature
and laser power control. Producing
proximal and distal balloon bonds,
the LB1000 can also accommodate
other catheter tube–bonding
applications. Using a process that is
based on bond-site temperature, the
unit simplifies profile development
and minimizes product variability.
Additional features include drop-in
product loading, a PLC-controlled
touch screen interface, and
automated bond-site alignment.
Vision-assist systems and cycle data
acquisition can also be integrated
into the system.
